The Inner Études is a site-specific immersive theatre performance that took place at Tai Kwun, Hong Kong’s former Victoria Prison, in 2021. It tells the story of Hong Kong through its granite rocks – from volcanic formation to colonial mining to modern city life. Tai Kwun itself is also built from granite. Through projection, sound, and performance, audiences connect with these enduring stones that mirror our roots and form the foundation of our city. I animated the projection for the colonial history scenes, based on illustrations provided by the director.
