In 2022, Greenpeace invited our team to pitch an animated short promoting the use of reusable cups across East Asia. I developed a story about two childhood friends reconnecting over a video call, reminiscing about how their friendship began when one gave the other a reusable cup at a bubble tea shop.
Our research suggested that people often go green because someone they care about inspired them, rather than from environmental facts alone. The film aimed to highlight the emotional connections we form with long-lasting objects, treating our belongings like relationships rather than disposable things.
We also planned a social campaign inviting audiences to share stories about their own reusable containers, with some animated into the film. We didn’t win the pitch, but it was a welcome opportunity to work on something environmental – something I’d always wanted to do.
